Uses for Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 1501)
The EPDM rubber lining of the Walraven HD 1501 clamps makes them ideal for:
- Noise and vibration isolation
- Protection of painted or coated pipework
- Reduction of metal-to-metal contact
- Building services installations where acoustics matter
Typical applications:
- HVAC pipework
- Chilled water systems
- Heating flow/return lines
- Copper, stainless, or coated steel pipe
- Plant rooms where vibration transfer is an issue
- Commercial buildings, hospitals, offices, apartments
Walraven states the EPDM lining of the HD 1501 clamps provides sound insulation to DIN 4109 and can reduce noise (according to ISO 3822-1) by up to 18 dB(A).
Best Practice for Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 1501)
Use Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps when:
- Pipes carry pumps or rotating equipment vibration
- Thermal expansion needs slight cushionin
- Pipe finish must be protected
- Acoustic compliance matters
Avoid using Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps where:
- Extremely high temperatures exceed lining capability
- A rigid restraint with no cushioning is intentional
- Pipe movement could shear the rubber over time
Uses for Walraven Unlined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 500)
Walraven HD 500 clamps have no rubber lining making them a metal-to-metal clamp and better for:
- Maximum rigidity
- High structural restraint
- Industrial pipe supports
- Large bore steel pipe
- Seismic or heavy mechanical applications
- High-temperature services
Typical applications:
- Sprinkler mains
- Industrial process pipework
- Steam and condensate systems
- Heavy steel distribution pipe
- Vertical risers
- Outdoor utility pipework
- Situations where movement must be tightly controlled
Walraven HD 500 pipe clamps are commonly specified where acoustic isolation is not important or structural performance is the priority.
Considerations for using Walraven Unlined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 500), are that because they have no rubber lining they:
- Handle higher temperatures better
- Provide firmer restraint
- Transfers vibration directly into the structure
- Can mark coated pipe unless protection is added
Recommended Uses for Walraven Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps
Building Services / Commercial MEP
For building services / commercial MEP use Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Clamps (HD 1501) to achieve:
- Quieter systems
- Less structure-borne vibration
- Cleaner pipe finish
- Compliance with acoustic specifications
Industrial or Utility Pipework
For industrial or utility pipework use Walraven Unlined Heavy Duty Clamps (HD 500) where:
- Temperatures are high
- Loads are severe
- Restraint performance matters more than acoustics
Mixed Systems
For mixed pipe systems use:
- Walraven Lined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 1501) near pumps, AHUs, chillers, occupied spaces
- Walraven Unlined Heavy Duty Pipe Clamps (HD 500) on mains, risers, rooftops, or industrial sections

* RAL Quality Marks (RAL Gütezeichen) stand for continuous independent testing and verifiable quality. The technical data of products with the quality mark is determined according to a uniform standard.
- RAL-GZ 655 is a quality certification standard for pipe support systems, including pipe clips, consoles, assembly rails, and accessories. It confirms that products have passed comprehensive independent testing and meet strict technical performance and quality requirements. Products carrying the RAL quality mark must fully comply with the demanding standards set out in RAL-GZ 655.
- RAL-GZ 656 quality mark certifies pipe support products that meet strict fire safety and mechanical performance standards. Certification requires independent testing and assessment of the product’s mechanical properties under RAL-GZ 655, along with fire testing and evaluation
