Never Let Go Range for Tool Tethering

The Never Let Go (NLG) range allows you to safely secure tools in 3 simple steps.
Tool tethering matters because it keeps people safe and projects moving.
Our NLG brochure provides a summary of the range and what you need to securely tether some common tools used in construction. You will need to select a method for tethering the tool and then the required lanyard to link your tool to a secure anchor point.

Importance of Tool Tethering
- Prevents dropped-object injuries. On elevated jobs, scaffolds, lifts or roofs, any tool that slips can cause serious harm to someone below. Tethering cuts that risk dramatically.
- Protects equipment. A dropped impact driver or drill isn’t just dangerous; it’s expensive. Tethers save tools from damage and keep teams productive.
- Supports compliance. Many sites and safety standards now require dropped-object prevention. Tethering is one of the simplest, most reliable ways to meet those expectations.
- Improves workflow. When workers trust that their tools are secure, they can focus on the task itself instead of worrying about where to put things or whether something might fall.
Why You Should Tether Your Tools
People often don’t realise the impact forces that are generated when an object is dropped. Even with some form of protection, the result of being struck by an item of relatively low weight can be significant…
A 2kg hammer dropped at just 5m will have the impact force of over 1 Tonne. That’s like a small car!
The vertical path of a dropped object may also be obstructed, causing deflection, and turning it into a dangerous projectile! An object that has fallen just 37m, hitting an obstruction at 6m can be deflected over 66m away, whilst travelling at up to 60mph.
So, effective tool tethering is first and foremost designed to protect others. Although, you’ll also be protecting yourself from being the cause of a serious injury or fatality…
- From 2019/20 - 2023/24 16% of fatal injuries to workers were caused by a moving object. An average of 21 deaths per year. Source: HSE RIDDOR Report
- In 2023/2024 10% of the 61,663 non-fatal injuries to employees (as reported by employers) were caused by a moving object. Source: HSE RIDDOR Report
The Impact of Dropped Tools
Any time there is an injury or fatality the impact is far reaching with emotional and financial consequences for all involved, such as loss of income, medical expenses, reduced productivity, legal expenses, increased insurance premiums and damage to reputation.
Dropping tools and equipment slows productivity and increases costs through lost time and replacements.
In reality the true cost of any incident involving a dropped object is incalculable, but implementing effective tool tethering will help remove the risk. Which is why main contractors such as Multiplex, now have allotted zones where tool tethering is compulsory.
